What does a builder do?
What are 2 words that describe what does a builder does? I would say build houses. So we can also work Houses and the parts of a house.
We can start playing making a house with bed sheets and chairs in the middle of the living room. Also we can do the activity preparing a fancy snack and eating it inside our house.
Tools:
Although it is always good to have a shovel and bucket at home to play, it is true that at home we have things that can serve as a shovel. For example, a simple spoon can help us in this situation. We can give the child flour to play with and manipulate with the spoon. Let the child use the spoon to transfer flour from one container to another. In addition, the flour reminds us of the sand that the builder uses.

Sensory activities:
Why is so important Pouring, scooping and transferring for your child?
“Pouring and dumping is discovery and exploration of gravity, weight, muscle control, cause and effect, and self-awareness. Not only are toddlers discover what they can do by pouring , they are learning about their environment while working on so many skills” (“The OT toolbox“). This is their post : DEVELOP AND REFINE FINE MOTOR SKILLS BY POURING, SCOOPING, AND TRANSFERRING

But if we are pretending to be builders or Construction workers we can play with sand. Magic sand time!

Connect the learning with real Life

As you can read at the beginning of this section, we said we can talk about Houses because Construction workers build houses! So we can talk about different kind of houses or the parts of a house. Last year we had a lot of fun at school building a igloo with marshmallows. But we can also prepare an indoor camp at home and sleep in a tent like the first nation community in north America. If we can go outside we can collect sticks and try to make a house with them, then we can see another communities in the world that use this material to build their houses.
