Learning through the experience

Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.

Dr. Maria Montessori.

The most well-known specialist in Education and children development from the last century to nowadays value the experience as a meaningful way to learn.

Every time we teach a child something, we keep him from inventing it himself. On the other hand, that which we allow him to discover for himself will remain with him visible for the rest of his life.

Jean Piaget.

When I plan my classes I always try to think about activities and stimulating items they can see, smell, touch, … If we are learning about Autumn, about the leaves, autumn fruits,… It’s nice to see pictures, but it’s even better to go outside and pick the colourful leaves from the floor, or have apples and pumpkins in the classroom.

Children don’t learn more because they have a good teacher that says to them what to do. They learn because they remember experiences that impact them. That is why learning should be something they enjoy and make them happy. A good teacher provides different environments, activities, spaces, games… that children can experience through their senses, and make them feel engaged and happy. In this sense, playing is so important in learning.

Playing is another way to experience our environment, to make relationships, and learn. Therefore, remember that next time your child was playing in the classroom, he or she has had a wonderful time learning.
