Yesterday we had our first meeting with our Head of School / AKD Academic Superintendent Douglas K. Prescott. It was positive and motivating. These are difficult times after the coronavirus outbreak, but Mr. Prescott was able, with his words, to give us a great boost by reminding us why we are teachers.
“I want you to fall in love”, “to fall in love with your profession, to remember why you are teachers” he said. The world needs children to be happy, they need to disconnect from the situation that surrounds us today and be children. Children need school more than ever. And how do teachers have to be? Mr. Prescott gave us 4 words: Integrity, resilience, caring and reflective. You can be smart, but caring is what makes a teacher the best version of themselves. A teacher needs to be strong to fail each day and must be honest, upright and the best example for children. Last but not least, teachers must reflect on practice … we cannot always be exceptional teachers, of course, but we can reflect on how we can improve … Why? Because at CISS the students are our priority.
To finish he gave us 10 tricks for the first day of class:

1. Greeting your students.
2. Have work right the way.
3. Introductions: “Whats your name” and “Hello” song.
4. Start the class community: We are CISS Manchu Tigers!!! Roar!!!
A shy but cute Manchu Tiger.
5. Teach Procedures: Wash your hands.
“Teacher when Can I wash my hands?”
6. Expectations: Learn and have fun!
We want the kids enjoy the school and their learning.
Sometimes the first is hard because we miss mom and dad…
It’s normal…
but we always have fun!
7. Promote the inquiry.
Asking questions…
Listening their opinions.
8. Read.
Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.
Read to them or let them read.
9. Observe and assess.
Start the process of learning from what they know.
10. Be calm.
